Window Security

Essential Window Security Tips

Are you worried about the security of your windows? You should be because windows are common points that criminals will target to access a home or even a business address. Windows can provide an easy way into your home and that’s why you should make sure that you are exploring these important tips.

Shut And Lock Windows When Out

You do need to make sure that you are shutting and locking the windows when you leave the property. If you are not doing this, then you are essentially leaving an open door for criminals. It’s easier than you think to levy open a window, even if there are only a couple of inches to work with. This is due to the fact that criminals often have special tools that help them break through areas like this.

Fix Broken Windows

Whether there has been an accident involving a football or perhaps a bird flew into the side of your home, it’s important to make sure that you get windows fixed that have been broken. If you don’t do this, then you are going to leave your home vulnerable. A broken window is easier to open and will mean that criminals see your property as a potential target.

Get Double Glazing

Something that you do need to do is invest in either double or triple glazing. The reason for this is that it is harder to break as the glass is thicker than single glazing. It is usually the case that if someone is going to intrude on your home and they have not planned it out in advance, they want something that is going to be easy. If you ensure that you have thick windows, as these are the usual targets, you are making it harder for anybody to enter your home.

Know Where The Keys Are

If your windows have keys, you need to make sure that you are keeping a check on these at all times. It’s important if you have children that you make sure that you know when they are using the keys. It’s possible that they might take the keys out with them and then misplace them. This can lead to a criminal getting their hands on the keys.

Keep Ladders Locked Away

You might have a ladder at your property. It’s important that these are locked away. Otherwise, you are leaving the home potentially vulnerable to a criminal using a ladder to reach a window that might be easier to gain entry to.

Install A Security Camera

Finally, if you want to keep your windows secure, then having a camera pointed at them 24/7 is a great way to do this. It means that if for any reason someone does come anywhere near your window,  you know that you have got it on camera. This camera needs to have night vision so that you can clearly see what is going on. Setting this up will deter people from coming anywhere near your windows as they will know that they will be caught on tape.
